I just purchased Dragon Professional Individual 14 Windows version thru Nuance's promo email 2 days ago.
During installation, I was informed that I must turn off my Antivirus. That should have been my first clue. But, seeing as this was a paid product from an apparently trustworthy company, I complied.
My anitvirus is Vipre.
After installation, I started Dragon and was immediately informed by my AV that an infection had occurred and that the only way to get rid of it was to restart. So I did that, and some files were erased (screen went by so fast I did not get a chance to see what was erased). After that, nothing worked very well. Very slow startup, file explorer was dead, could not even get into Task Manager.
I finally managed to boot in Safe Mode, and used System Restore to go back to the snapshot that was taken just before I installed Dragon 14. All is OK now. There was no other activity at the time that the install was done, so it looks very much like this was caused by Dragon.
Before the restore, I was able to look at my AV logs. The trojan that was quarantined is named Trojan.Win32.Generic.pak!cobra. According to my research, this is a particularly nasty one and is difficult to get rid of.
After the restore I did a complete scan with Vipre and with Malwarebytes, no infections present.
As has been stated in other forum posts, it is almost impossible to get in touch with Nuance support. I tried putting in a support ticket, but the serial number which I was given for this purchase is registered in my support account as a legacy product with expired support! So I can't put in any tickets on it.
So I'm now leery about installing this product. Has anyone else had similar problems with this or past Dragon versions?
