Topic by DICTATEMISSION

Hi I recently bought Dragon Naturally speaking (DNS) 13 (premium edition) and soon going to get a PC laptop to use with it - any recommendations on what to get or AVOID? I'm considering getting this - LENOVO THINKPAD T440p i7 2.9Ghz 8GB 500GB DVD-RW 14″HD+ W8.1Pro http://www.nzpcclearance.co.nz/pr…/lenovo-thinkpad-t440p-i7/

If I do get this Laptop I will definitely be getting the Ram upgrade to 16GB and the 240GB SSD.

I've also been told that RAM is the most important factor for success with Dragon naturally speaking voice recognition

I wonder whether I should try get something with 32GB ram?

I'm probably going to get a yeti mic as well.

Any thoughts, opinions??

Dragon 15 pasting material randomly during dictation (2 Comments)

Topic by Graham Tobin

Apart from an incredibly slow (2-3h) installation, Dragon 15 is also pasting material randomly, and repeatedly, into a document that I am creating.  These have included screen shots from SnagIt, deleted sections of the existing document, and cells from an Excel spreadsheet.  Never had anything like these problems with previous versions.

I did remedy the poor speech recognition that I initially experienced by creating a new profile.  I am wasting so much time that it won't be much longer before I go back to Dragon Premium 13, which was largely reliable and trouble free.

Has anyone had an issue with Dragon shutting down any time you try to change the Hot Keys in Tools/Options/Hot Keys? If so, how can I stop this so that I can change the Hot Keys?

Thank you!

Acoustic Optimizer Runs Then Freezes (3 Comments)

In Windows 8.1, after manually running Acoustic Optimizer - which runs through various tasks for 30-60 minutes and seems to work - the pop-up says "Status: Adapting user profile ... 1 second remaining", and the green bar is full, suggesting that the optimization is complete. However, the Done button is nowhere to be seen. It remains like this indefinitely (like 30+ minutes). I finally hit "Cancel." Did the Optimizer freeze? Or did it complete its tasks?

P.S. I'm running it again and it says 47 minutes left to go. So I'm thinking it didn't really finish optimizing.

Recently upgraded to v15. Can I delete the ProgramData\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking13 folder?

I recently upgraded to Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional Individual 15. I noticed while looking for the default profiles folder that I have a NaturallySpeaking13 folder as a peer to the new NaturallySpeaking15 folder. My new upgraded profile is safely stored within the NaturallySpeaking15 folder. Can I delete the ProgramData\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking13 folder now? It's taking up 1.7 GB of my SSD.

Thanks,

Jack

I would like to see Dragon Naturally Speaking support Scrivener. Many writers use Scrivener writing stories, novels or screenplays. It is cumbersome to have to write in Microsoft Word then copy everything into Scrivener.

Problems Using Dragon Professional Individual version 15 (16 Comments)

Topic by William Spaulding

  • There are numerous problems with the new Dragon Professional Individual version 15. When you say “cap selection”, it capitalizes all of the words, including conjunctions, such as "and". Version 14 does a better job because it leaves minor words uncapped.

  • When typing a word in the Vocabulary Editor, the editor box does not show matching words, so it is difficult to see if the word was already added.
  • Sometimes, when you say something, it does not do anything nor does it give any indication that it is doing anything.

  • The auto transcription feature would be much more useful if there was an option to direct the output to a single file, or even to DragonPad. Also, it serves no useful purpose to copy the sound files along with the text to the destination folder.
  • I use a Sony voice recorder as my main input and I use its Sound Organizer software. It has a button to use Dragon NaturallySpeaking to transcribe the audio files. It temporarily saves the sound files on my PC in .WAV format. It works very well with DNS 14, but when I try to use it with DNS 15, it gives me this error message: “The format of the file 000.wav it is invalid. Note: The sampling rate must be at least 16 kHz." Furthermore, the sampling rate, as indicated by Windows 10 file Explorer, is 176 kHz, which was much more than adequate. I also have no problem playing the file, even using other software, such as Windows 10 Groove Music. So there must be some error in your new version of DNS that is preventing this from operating properly. As I have said, I had no problem using it in Dragon Professional Individual 14.

New installation, hoping to avoid double letters at beginning of dictations, Dragon 12 Premium (3 Comments)

Is there an optimal order of installation on a new machine? Windows 8, updating to 8.1. I know to turn off the typing features in Windows settings. Installing Office 2007, Dragon 12. The first time the machine had a defective LED so starting over with a new one. The first one had doubled characters often at the beginning of dictations, not just when starting Dragon but after pauses in speech. Did not occur in Word, which was installed first, but in email and other programs online. Not having this issue on other machine, Windows 7 with Dragon Home but did early on. Thanks.

Background Noise Filter

Topic by Steve Lewin

I use Naturally Speaking all the time. It's excellent as a speech recognition product. It's so good I like to leave the microphone on as much as possible, so it is always ready to go (like a keyboard). But I find that the microphone is too sensitive to background noise and my own coughs, snuffles and sneezes etc.

I would like to have a control that would allow me to manage the level of background noise filtering. This would allow me to reduce the number of spurious command actions and text entry where I don't want it. It would also significantly reduce the number of times I have to turn the microphone on and off using the shortcut I have defined. There is a small but significant delay each time the shortcut is used, especially when turning the microphone on.

Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

The annoying "period"

Topic by Henning Holthusen

One of the more inexplicable design decisions in Dragon is the fact that "period" will get you a ".".

This is a major annoyance for me as it often causes unwanted "."

Is there any way of turning this off completely? I use "full stop" when I want a "."

Google Chrome automatically disables NaturallySpeaking extension and will not allow you to re-enable... (18 Comments)

Topic by T H

Just today I received a Google Chrome popup telling me that my NaturallySpeaking extension has been permanently disabled by Chrome and attempts to re-enable it are unsuccessful.  Further, it seems that Google Chrome will not allow extensions to be used that do not appear in their "Extensions store" For a discussion of this problem see:

https://productforums.google.com/forum/?utm_campaign=2811969_hl_en_c_s2&utm_source=0&utm_medium=1#!topic/chrome/2yTVWdfC4Gg%5B1-25-false%5D

Is there a workaround for this? This seems crazy.

I'm using Chrome v35 on Windows 7 x64 and NaturallySpeaking 12.5

Any help is appreciated.

Difference between DNS 11 and Dragon 14 in scripting language

Hi all,

Is the book 'SCRIPTING FOR DRAGON NATURALLYSPEAKING 11' enough to learn scripting? I can't find a comprehensive manual in English or Dutch for version 14 of Dragon. Do you know some good books and/or videolessons to learn scripting?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

the roving cursor (40 Comments)

I enjoy the program, and it works pretty well, but sometimes when I am dictating, and then I look closely for the cursor and find it is somewhere other than where I intended it to be. I called this my "roving cursor problem" and I wonder whether anybody else is experiencing a similar thing? I will be dictating, and suddenly the cursor will be in at the beginning of the document, were somewhere other than where it's supposed be., and I will have to move the cursor to the end of the document  , by voice, order to resume dictating.

Tried to use Nat Speaking 12.5 with Windows 10.

It won't work.

I get the Training Dialog and it seems to recognize sound but never goes any farther.

Tech Support said that Naturally Speaking wouldn't work with Windows 10.

I've been a Dragon user from Dragon Dictate 2.0.

Giving Windows 10 speech recognition a try.

Repeated initial letters (14 Comments)

Topic by James McVay

I am using DNS 12.5 with Windows 3.1, and I have been having problems with doubled initial letters in some widely used applications: Firefox, Quicken and TurboTax. Another application with this problem and others that is less widely used but is important to me is OmegaT, a computer-aided translation program. The appearance of repeated letters makes it very inconvenient to use Dragon with those programs. Since a new edition of DNS is due this year, I hope the developers are tackling the problem.
